Cecil is a long-time outdoor experiential educator, scholar in experiential education, and field risk manager. She has worked in the field of outdoor adventure education for 2 decades as a field instructor, program administrator, and university professor. As an educator, Cecil expands rehumanizing and anti-colonial practices in adventure and outdoor experiential education through critical scholarship, interdisciplinary collaboration with students and colleagues, and equitable learning and teaching practices in the traditional and outdoor classroom. Her research interests include anti-colonial Sense of Place in the Outdoors; Social Justice pedagogy in adventure education; Critical theory applications to outdoor education, including colonial racial capitalism, settler colonialism, and gender, and equitable field risk management.
